Warhammer Dark Omen

History

This game was preceeded by a very similar and popular game called Warhammer Shadow of the Horned Rat.

Company Line

Enter the world of Warhammer and experience real-time strategic combat in a fully 3-D world. As a mercenary captain, command regiments of cavalry, infantry, and archers as well as wizards, war machines, and monsters in an epic struggle to wipe out the hordes of darkness from the face of the Old World.

Game Play

The interface is awkward and difficult to get used to, but once mastered game play is a little better. The main problem is that the combat is real time and the enemy artificial intelligence controls multiple units, while you must command your units one at a time and very quickly. Macros for accessing units quickly would have enhanced play tremendously.

Facing, terrain, unit types and unit strengths are importand aspects of the tactical combat. The enemy is very, very powerful, leaving you hanging on by your fingernails, which grognards will like and the casual player will not. Casual players will find the game impossible to play.

Plot

You have hordes of monsters organized into army like units, which fight and move in coordinated formations. The monsters include orcs, and various super units such as dragons.

Another nice feature is the well written plotline and cut scenes that go with the plot.
