Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans

History

In the early years of Westwood's history and rise to prominance as a multi genre gaming company, they proceeded to move from one genre to another and conquer each in turn, producing number one games in each genre. Westwood produced animated graphic adventures like Battletech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception, A first person role playing game called Eye of the Beholder, and later the real time strategy game Command and Conquer. Even without the influence of powerful distributors like Strategic Simulations Incorporated and Activision, Westwood continued to thrive with the Kyrandia animated graphic adventure series and the Lands of Lore role playing adventure games.

Now Blizzard, a seeming unknown company comes out with a real time strategy game hit series based upon the Warcraft universe and a role playing adventure game called Diablo. Can Blizzard repeat the task that many game giants have been unable to do, bring out another hit game in yet another genre? Only time will tell, but I put my sheckles behind the Blizzard.

Company Line

Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans picks up where Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal ended and develops many of the popular characters and locations first introduced in the Warcraft real-time strategy series. Players return to the land of Azeroth as Thrall, a young virile Orc robbed of his heritage after being raised in servitude by humans. Destined to reunite and lead the disbanded Orcish clans, Thrall must escape the Humans' shackles and return the Horde to dominance.

Game Play

The game is an animated graphic adventure involving a scripted story line, puzzle solving and extensive character interaction.

Plot

The plot begins where Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal ended. The locations for the background art include many of the locations seen in the real-time strategy series. You take the role of a young orc who is captured by the humans and raised as a slave by humans.

You are through some quirk of fate destined to escape from human bondage, return to Azeroth as A Thrall, develop power and influence, and eventually unite the disbanded Orcish clans in an epic battle to once again challenge human power.

Graphics

Background artists have rendered sixty stuning locations within seven Azeroth regoins. Over seventy characters have been animated and developed using traditional animation techniquest to have personality and specialized individual characteristics. Many of the characters drawn were first introduced during the Warcraft series.

Animation

The animation is done in the traditional Disney style with drawing boards, ink and paint, and multiplane camera all simulated by computer techniques. The over 40,000 frames of traditional animation art complete with primary and in between animations was created by a team of over 50 artists.

Voice Actors

The cast of hollywood voice actors include Clancy Brown of Highlander, Starship Troopers and The Shawshank Redemption, Peter Cullen who plays Optimus Pime in the Transformers animated TV Series, and Tony Jay of Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame.
